The Steelers embarrassed their rival Browns to be sure, but the Seahawks lopsided win at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field against the defending NFC Champs, had to be considered a passing of the torch. The Seahawks held a 35-0 lead by the end of the first half! It wasn't much of a contest as starter Donovan McNabb was injured and backups Koy Detmer and Mike McMahon combined for 145 passing yards and 4 interceptions.

The injury that kept him out for this long was an ankle injury.

Stanford Jennings returned a kickoff against the 49ers in a losing effort in Super Bowl XXIII, Fulton Walker returned the first ever kickoff for a touchdown as his Miami Dolphins lost to the Redskins in Super Bowl XVII, and Andre Coleman returned a kickoff for the Chargers against the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX. Desmond Howard returned a kickoff against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI and was selected MVP of the game.

Tight end Jackie Smith played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1963-77, making five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, averaging 16.5 yards per catch, and scoring 40 touchdowns. Traded to Dallas for his final NFL season, Smith was barely used (zero catches in 12 regular season games, three in the playoffs, zero in the Super Bowl). But he managed to write himself into the stuff of NFL legend in Super Bowl XIII. With the Cowboys trailing the Steelers 21-14 in the third quarter, Roger Staubach found Smith all alone in the end zone and threw to him from 10 yards out. Smith dropped the ball, the Cowboys kicked a field goal, and eventually lost the game 35-31. After dropping the pass, Smith threw himself backward in frustration, and Staubach's immediate reaction was to grab his helmet in shock, a rare show of emotion for the usually unflappable quarterback. However, Staubach has since claimed to have thrown the pass a bit off target. And the Steelers raced off to two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, putting themselves up 35-17, so how much Smith's drop cost the Cowboys is debatable. Unfortunately for Smith, he will likely spend a long time on a short list of Hall of Famers who are remembered for a single moment in a single game, playing for a team on which he spent just a single season.

In Super Bowl VI, Jan 1972, the Cowboys embarrassed the Dolphins 24-3, with Miami's lone score coming on a Garo Yepremian 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. The Cowboys rushed for 252 yards compared to the Dophins' 80. Dallas also compiled 23 first downs to the Dolphins' 10. Miami would show the world how good they were, and came back in the 1972 season in perfect fashion all the way to Super Bowl VII against Washington.

He caught a pass from Steve Young and ran it for 63 yds against the San Diego Chargers in the 1994 Super Bowl. This is the record for a running back!

The Jets won Super Bowl III over Baltimore and the New York Giants have won two Super Bowls, 39-20 over Denver in Super Bowl XXI and 20-19 over Buffalo in Super Bowl XXV. However, there is another city that has won with multiple franchises. The Baltimore Colts won Super Bowl V over Dallas 16-13. The Baltimore Ravens won it in Super Bowl XXV over the NY Giants, 34-7.

Those were two different eras but they still constitute victories with two different teams.

Los Angeles did win with the Raiders, 38-9 over Washington but lost with the LA Rams in their one appearance, a 31-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XIV. The Rams reached two other Super Bowls, but with St. Louis.
